She graduated from Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University with a degree in Psychological Science and from Boston University with a Master in Education- Curriculum and Teaching, emphasis in general science education.

Annelise joined ѿappas President of the BSOM institutional partnership chapter in 2020 and helped lead an ambitious revamping of the chapter that ultimately resulted in it becoming the most active chapter in the organization. My name is Sara Amini, and I am a second-year medical student at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). My ѿappjourney began at a community college after moving to the United States from Iran. I later transferred to UCLA, where I chaired the International Opportunities Program at ѿappBruins, leading global engagement efforts.

I became involved with National ѿappafter recognizing its impactful advocacy work, especially in areas close to my heart, such as reproductive rights and access to care. Alongside my passion for advocacy, I am deeply committed to global health and advocating for the care of people with disabilities. Currently, I serve as the co-president of ѿappat MCW and have taken on the role of National ѿappMedical Membership Director. In this capacity, I aim to promote AMSA’s values across domestic medical schools and ensure our legacy of advocacy and excellence continues.

In my free time, I enjoy catching up on sleep, watching TV shows and movies, creating content for my medical journey Instagram (@studentdramini), hiking, and exploring new coffee shops that double as study spots.

Nikitha Balaji (they/them) is honored to serve ѿappin their current role as AMSA’s National President. They are excited to build upon AMSA’s rich history and legacy of driving change in response to ongoing inequity and they look forward to working alongside similarly impassioned future physicians in the process.

Nikitha has completed their M2 year at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. They are originally from Melbourne, Florida, and graduated from the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Nikitha joined ѿappin 2020, as sweeping anti-LGBT+ legislative attacks spread throughout state legislatures across the nation. Through AMSA, they found the resources and mentorship necessary to develop their agency as a physician-in-training and advocate against the inequities facing their community. In their previous roles as AMSA’s LGBT+ Health Advocacy Coordinator and Gender and Sexuality Health Policy Coordinator, Nikitha has worked to author and submit pieces of written testimony to state medical boards and state legislatures to communicate the evidence-based harms of anti-LGBT+ legislation. They have also worked with ѿappchapters to develop state-specific advocacy action plans to push back against harmful local legislation. In their role as AMSA’s Transgender Health Scholars Co-Course Director, Nikitha has enjoyed having the opportunity to shine a light on transgender health from the perspective of medical education.

My name is Yalini Ramamamoorthy, and I am a second year medical student at Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine. I was born in Germany, but my family came to Ohio when I was very little, and I have lived there most of my life. To talk a little bit about myself, I really like to read and oil paint in my free time. Painting is something I hold dear to me, and I think I’d like to have my own art studio in the future. I went to college at THE Ohio State University, where I studied Microbiology. It turned out to be the perfect major to be in during the peak of the pandemic. Now I hope to pursue a career in Hematology and Oncology.

Medicine is something I have always wanted to pursue, but now that I am in it, I’ve had to figure out what is important to me and what to prioritize. Though I have to keep up with the academic rigor and join organizations, maintain leadership and do research, I had to zoom out and really figure out what is crucial to the quality of my future career. There is so much going on in the world that is actively impacting mine and my friends’ lives and education. Being a part of the American Medical Student Association has given me the opportunity to be involved in important advocacy projects with missions to inflict change in the health care world- particularly women’s health care- and challenge policies that restrict the accessibility of health care. I joined the ѿappNational Board of Trustees as the Chief Editor of the New Physician magazine, and though I am a new addition, I have already gotten to work with amazing individuals to propel the vision of the New Physician. Being Chief Editor gives me the opportunity to highlight non-academic writing in the medical setting and spotlight thought-provoking viewpoints that challenge the status quo and advocate for equity in our environment. I feel that I can properly exercise my passion for advocacy through AMSA, and I can’t wait for more productive and successful years ahead.

My name is Adam Gaetz. I’m an MD student at Central Michigan University College of Medicine, and I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services Administration from St. Petersburg College in the beautiful state of Florida.

Leadership, advocacy, and service make up the foundation of how I strive to foster progress and make positive impacts on the lives of others. It’s through my dedicated and extensive efforts over the years that I’ve been able to achieve my goals within various academic institutions, communities, and within our nation as a whole. I’m thrilled to be able to continue my efforts while making national impacts through the ѿappNational Board of Trustees.

At a state level, I’ve continued my service efforts in Michigan through CMU Street Medicine, providing free health services, resources, and social services to address the unique needs and circumstances of the underserved, underinsured, and often unsheltered members of our community, and I now have the privilege of serving as a Street Medicine Event Coordinator for Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. I also serve as a Dean’s Ambassador at CMU COM, Co-President of the Neurosurgery Student Focus Group at CMU COM, Facilitator of the Mid-Central Michigan Area Health Education Center’s Health Careers Pipeline Program (AHEC HCPP), Member of the NBME INSIGHTS™ Power User Group, and Question Tagger & Editor for StatPearls. I also design, coordinate, and facilitate clinical workshops for adults, undergraduate students, high school students, and elementary school students across various events including CMU’s annual Sibs & Kids Weekend, CMU’s annual Grandparents University Summer Camp, CMU COM’s annual CampMed Summer Camp, and the aforementioned AHEC HCPP.

Outside of my academic and leadership responsibilities, I love to go SCUBA diving, enjoy being in nature, and spend all of my spare time with my Boston Terrier, Bumper. I’m also captivated by microscopy and am a fan of keeping and observing ant farms and ecospheres.

My philosophy in life is simple: “Do what makes you happy”. If you’re reading this, you’re likely on a selfless path in life that will make extraordinary impacts on the lives of others. The sacrifices you will need to make to be successful in these pursuits will be vast, but the rewards will be invaluable and immensely fulfilling. Keep moving forward, and don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything that we may be able to do to help you be successful in attaining your goals.

Hello! I’m Gregory Hunt, and my journey in medicine has been shaped by my many cultures and experiences. I was born in Sicily, Italy, but relocated to Florida during elementary school which quickly helped me warm up to Orlando as my new home. I graduated from the University of Central Florida and am currently a Caribbean medical student at Saint James School of Medicine. In addition to my medical studies, I am also working towards an MBA because I believe that physicians need to appreciate how to care for patients while also understanding and improving the intricate systems of healthcare. Living right next to Disney has made me a self proclaimed disney adult and I wear that with pride. To me, Disney isn’t just a theme park, it stands as a representation of imagination, hope, and the dreams of seemingly impossible feats. I strive to bring that same sense of magic and optimism into my approach to medicine, fostering hope and endless possibilities for my colleagues and patients. My greatest passion is mental health. I strongly believe in dismantling the stereotypes associated with mental illness and providing care that is both kind and complete. I firmly believe that mental health is the cornerstone of overall well-being, and I want to be at the forefront of changing how we approach mental health care.

I’m also passionate about research and storytelling. I am currently working on projects that explore behavior change and sleep in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, and I hope to become a published author. Through my writing, I aim to advocate for mental health awareness and share stories that inspire understanding and change within the medical community and beyond.

ѿapprepresents a community where future doctors can grow as leaders and advocates, committed to equity and innovation in healthcare. Looking ahead, I hope to serve as both a psychiatrist and a published author, using my voice and skills to advance mental health care and champion a more empathetic, inclusive future in medicine.
